~ Arithmetic Is Easy, Right ? ~
Petra Staynova (University of Derby) presented a talk based upon her paper written in collaboration with Ibai Aedo, Uwe Grimm and Yasushi Nagai on the nature of arithmetic progressions in the ubiquitous Thue-Morse substitution and its generalisation. A highlight of the talk were some geometric visualisations of the algebraic results. Petra spoke very warmly about Uwe, and how he had encouraged the group to explore an idea that turned out to be so fruitful and interesting.
