Jenny Hughes began by confessing that a large part of her job at the University of Sheffield is about “playing with software”. Her job involves working out which of the blizzard of applications being released each month are potentially of use to those teaching mathematics and statistics. Which are worthy of being officially endorsed by the University? The selection criteria place an emphasis on “accessibility” both in terms of cost, and how suitable the software is for use by those using assistive technologies such as a screen reader.
