Michael Grove from the University of Birmingham was the fourth and final keynote speaker of the day. His area of expertise is in “mathematics support” and the ways and means by which institutions and individual teachers can provide additional resources to improve the student experience of learning mathematics when they need it. A particular point of focus for Michael was the transition from school to university, although he is also an advocate of supporting schoolchildren with mathematical talent achieve their potential. A part of his presentation was about getting the audience to reflect upon and share their own experiences on issues such as “What constitutes effective feedback on student's work?”, “What makes a good tutorial ?”, and “What opportunities are provided for Students to talk about their work ?”.
