~ The O(n) Loop Model on Ammann-Beenker Tilings ~
Shobhna Singh is a PhD Researcher at the University of Cardiff, under the supervision of Dr Felix Flicker (one of the conference organisers). Her talk was about how universality survives in an aperiodic setting. A universality class, Shobhna explained, is a collection of mathematical models which may differ dramatically at finite scales, but with behaviour that becomes increasingly similar as the continuum limit is approached. I found the presentation visually exciting. It was packed full of intricate diagrams many of which are featured in the 2023 paper Hamiltonian Cycles on Ammann-Beenker Tilings co-authored with Jerome Lloyd and Felix Flicker. Several of these spectacular images now adorn my office wall.
