~ Mechanical Properties of Aperiodic Honeycombs ~
The second day of workshop talks commenced with an account of an exhaustive set of experiments that were designed to catalogue the mechanical properties of a variety of aperiodic honeycombs. Daniel Clarke talked us through the practicalities of 3D printing where issues were addressed such as the fact that any physical construction has lines with thickness and the whole entity has a bounding edge. The world of hands on engineering is all very untidy and cluttered to those of us of a more pure mathematical nature. The work described is to be found in the recently published paper, Identification of Mechanically Representative Samples for Aperiodic Honeycombs.
