~ Bicamerals ~
In addition to exhibits related to the Hat tiling, the Andrew Wiles Building had on display a variety of mathematical sculptures by Conrad Shawcross. I was particularly taken with this fractal tree, titled “Bicamerals”. An 8 metre tall version of this sculpture was unveiled in November 2019 at Chelsea Barracks, former army accommodation now converted into luxury apartments. Producing an accurate physical representation of an intricate three dimensional mathematical entity on such epic scale is an achievement; it's fascinating to study how its modular nature and method of interlocking of component parts “grows” the structure.
